The Cape Verde Islands are about 1000 miles from the equator and have an almost perfect climate. Temperatures are stable, between 22o and 30o centigrade all year round, and there are no hurricanes to contend with, so you have an almost perfect Caribbean climate with none of the associated problems.
What's more, there is probably no better place in the world to train for triathlon over the winter, with ocean temperatures that rarely dip below 21o and a friendly population who don't try to run bikers off the road.
Sal is not particularly hilly but there are a few steep rises that go from sea level to 240ft and in February there is generally a wind that often peaks above 20 mph. Consequently, the islands give an ideal opportunity to get fit and test your speed, especially your aerodynamics, before the season starts.

Sal is only 5 hours away by direct flight from the UK and with only a 1 or 2 hour time difference you suffer no jet lag, as you do when traveling to the Caribbean.
The most comparable winter destination is Lanzarote, but being about 800 miles further south you can see from the table below sal has a better weather pattern.
